Upstart Music, circa 2008. The brain child of then UK based D-Funk. Quickly nominated at the International Break beat awards, Upstart set out it’s stall early; to release quality break beat led music from across the globe. Fast forward to ’14 & Upstart are still going strong, all be it based in Sydney, Australia nowadays. Everyone loves a good bit of nostalgier so after listening back to the tunes we’ve released, we decided to update some of our classic tunes & have drafted in an all star line up of both old & new names alike. First up Philly Blunt takes on his own ‘Feel’ with his new partner in grime, Micah Black. Together they make up the aptly named Black & Blunt. Their blend of sub rattling booty bass has gained them plaudits from all corners of the planet & over the past few years they’ve had released music on Lot49, Rat Records & Passenger. Upstart boss D-Funk takes on one of the label best selling tunes in the shape of Rogue Robot’s ‘Off My Face In ‘97’. His updated version flexes old skool 2 step garge vibes, a sound he’s become known for recently. Bubbling basslines & lighters in the air! Rump Shaker Records duo The Beatsplappaz have been making big waves recently. They’ve taken Crazkerz & Jam’s ‘Hold On’ & crafted a perfect balance between beauity & a beast. Valerie M’s vocals stripped back perfectly & set across a rasping break beat & savage bassline. Canada’s Sonek gets to grips with Upstart’s debut release from back in ’08, D-Funk & Mc Manic’s ‘Bust This’. Sonek is part of the huge Breakz R Boss stable & his tuff breaks have been turning heads & rocking dance floors for the past few years. His mix of ‘Bust This’ fizzes bass & attitude without ever being too much. He busses it proper tight!
