Pearl & the Oysters is the French-American duo of Joachim Polack and Juliette Davis. The pair met in high school in Paris and bonded over their mutual love for Burt Bacharach, the Pixies, Chico Buarque, and the Zombies. They began working on a sound equally influenced by space age '50s pop (and its '90s revival by Stereolab), and Love You-era Beach Boys. In 2020 the duo relocated to Los Angeles. There, Polack was able to complete his doctorate while putting the finishing touches on P&TO’s third studio album, Flowerland released by Chicago's Feel Trip (USA) and Tip Top (ROW), Sept 2021 on digital & vinyl LP. Like with any P&TO release, friends and collaborators from across the globe left a sonic footprint on the songs of Flowerland. Second single Soft Science features vocals Tseng Kuo-Kweng of superstar Taiwanese pop band Sunset Rollercoaster and musicians contributing guest appearances including Dent May, sitarist Ami Dang, Jules Crommelin of Berlin-by-way-of-Australia’s Parcels, Dutch multi-instrumentalist Fay Lovsky. The album was mixed by Shags Chamberlain, responsible for mixing Drugdealer and Mac Demarco’s latest releases.
