简介

The Standard album is a compelling display of Aziatic\'s range as a Garifuna Artist. Songs like \"Salufuri and Abinaha\" the African drums catches fire and the rhythms of the Garifuna culture explodes. With Punta being the most popular of the secular Garifuna dance-song genres, these types of songs usually composed by women. It is a genre of dance that is a symbolic reenactment of the cock-and-hen mating dance. The dance represents sexual dialogue between male and female dancers, who attempt to outdo each other with unique stylized movements by the shaking of the hips, buttocks and features an almost motionless upper torso in contrast to the constant movement of the hips, legs, and feet. The collection of songs on The Standard was born out of the need to create a new and exciting genre of Garifuna music based on a fusion of elements of culture and music that express indigenous and urban social ideals. The traditional punta and paranda songs on this album symbolizes the reaffirmation of an identity deeply rooted in the origin, history, and struggle of a common people. With songs like \"Ejypt Nanig, Familia and Childrend\" Aziatic addresses some of our social issues as well as find time to party with songs like \"Punta and Jo Grind\" yet it maintains its popularity because it incorporates the traditional (the old) and the contemporary (the modern) aspects of the Garifuna culture to deliver a heart felt album.
