Dark Moon is a 4-part motion comic series that has always had music at the core of its experience, and has never been afraid to explore using music that normally isn’t used in science fiction and horror, particularly hip-hop. With their new album collaboration with Myka 9, “Teleported”, they’ve taken this exploration to its natural conclusion. Dark Moon creator Freematik had this to say about the comics’ musical experience: “Each episode follows a similar musical evolution, starting with very ambient elements, then moving to trip hop and atmospheric hip hop, finally culminating in more intense music such as dubstep for the battles, then mellowing back down at the end. Also, each episode has a great outro song to leave the reader with something dope to listen to on the way out of our universe!” Los Angeles based hip-hop artist Myka 9 has collaborated with Freematik on Dark Moon since its original launch, and was on the original soundtrack, so when it came time to finish the series, Myka 9 and Freematik decided to do a full album called “Teleported”, which would be released at the same time as the final episode, and expands on the Dark Moon universe with new music, as well as exploring some new sci-fi themes. Freematik had this to say about working with Myka 9 on the “Teleported” album: “Myka was the perfect choice to create music with for a sci-fi comic series, because those elements have always been in his vocabulary, his lyrics have explored topics such as quantum mechanics and interstellar space travel for many years! And the songs he contributed to on the original soundtrack were just amazing, so much so that we remixed and remastered them and included them on this new album, because they fit the theme so perfectly!” About Myka 9 Myka 9 is known for rapid-fire, jazz-influenced, melodic rapping, often incorporating singing and occasionally scatting into his songs. Myka 9 has said of his style: "My rhymes take the direction of a jazz trumpet or sax solo, like Miles or Trane, if I was to rhyme in the same meter as those notes... that's my concept." Myka 9 is featured in the documentary “Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme”. He is also featured in the award-winning documentary “This Is the Life”, chronicling the music movement that was birthed at The Good Life Cafe in South Central, Los Angeles. The Good Life Cafe is the open-mic workshop where he first performed with Freestyle Fellowship in the early 1990s.
