I like to call what we do as Hip Hop Lit! American D-Boy is the soundtrack to a novel I wrote titled American D-Boy. Shoota did the soundtrack to the book that I wrote. That's why I call it Hip Hop Lit, Lit is short for Literature. My idea was to promote the importance of reading to the inner city youth through the medium of Hip Hop music. And for the fact that they are lacking in the literacy department. The U.S. Dept. of Justice and the Dept. of Corrections have released info that they determine the number of building future prisons, based on the number of 3rd grade children in the inner city's reading levels. Their logic is that if you can't read then you won't be filling out a application, therefore your only alternative is a life of crime. So to offset the number of future prisons, I've decided to promote my novels to inner city youth by attaching Hip Hop soundtracks to them to attract them to the idea that reading is cool. IF Jay-Z, 2 chains, Kanye West, Pitbull, B.o.B, and many other Hip Hop Artist were to spread the same message then we will create change. If we can get these artist to get the children to say READERS ARE LEADERS! THAT'S A START!
