简介
Gideon King's musical journey continues. His new release, 2:14 AM, marks his exploration of structured jazz. Whereas his previous release, Revisiting Spaces, was a contemplative and largely solo move through acoustic fusion, 2:14 AM is a collaboration amongst four fine musicians. Gideon is joined by legendary fusion guitar player John Scofield, well-known Willard Dyson on drums, and hard groovin bassist Gregory Jones. On this track Gideon plays a nylon string acoustic, a guitar synth, and an electric jazz guitar. Scofield's funky modernism and quirky tonal manipulations are interwoven into this funk hit. Dyson and Jones do what a rhythm section should do: groove squarely in the pocket. Influenced heavily by straight-ahead artists such as Wayne shorter and Bill Evans, Fusion musicians such as Pat Metheny and John Scofield, and fusion-pop artists like Steely Dan, King collaborates with some of the world's finest musicians to create jazz minus traditional "A.B.A." structures and plus melodic pop and fusion colors. The result is structured Jazz, replete with rock, folk, latin, and jazz contours. Gideon believes the concept of a band includes 20 or 30 musicians handpicked because of their unique skills to perform on different original compositions and even certain standards. Expect more releases of this kind from Gideon King and his assemblage of superior jazz players.
