Tha U is a rap/hip hop group hailing from Lexington KY. The core artists are J-Hurt, Half-Breed, Yung Dreadz ,Ike Brown, Prince Tone, Action, Telle Tel, JP, Ray Ray, Strong, Big Al, J-Henn, and Lil Pimp. “Tha U has a very distinct sound and you can feel the energy in the music. The U started out officially as a group in November 2011 however, they collectively have over a decade of experience in the underground hip hop scene. Ike brown, the eldest in the group has released 2 underground projects with group “Bonafide Circle” and multiple solo mix projects. Ike has also worked with industry artists and producers such as Kay-Gee of Naughty by Nature, platinum producer Mixzo, Cee-Lo Green of Goodie Mob, Jahiem, Bone Crusher, and former Motown R&B group Black Coffey, and former Arista Records artist Rob Jackson along with a slew of other underground and mainstream talent. J-Hurt , the heart of Tha U, along with his group “3rd World” has released multiple underground projects which have created a loyal following in the KY underground scene. Half –Breed along with his group “Top Notch” have over the past 8 years created a respectable underground following in KY as well. Yung Dreadz is the hot spitting youngster in the group. Though he hasn’t been around long, his skills are that of a seasoned vet and he is clearly in the running for being a force to be reckoned with on the mic.

Collectively, all of the members had already been working on various projects other than music for years, such as a lawn care company, custodial business amongst others ventures previous to coming together as a rap group. In November of 2011, they decided to focus on a common project that would not only high light the more experienced artists but to give the younger artists a platform to launch their hip hop careers as well. The camaraderie and chemistry is evident when one hears their first group project “State Of tha Union”. Tha U is not just a rap group but a group of young men ranging from ages 18 to 30, who are committed to working together as a unit to help one another get better at their crafts and to prove to anyone watching or listening that teamwork makes any dream work…U-Tang Deep!!
