简介

Part Indy guitar-pop with Rock and Glam leanings, Sarah Caltieri’s album “Something I Couldn’t Say…”, recorded by the Platinum Award winning production team at Riverside Studios in Glasgow, (Officially released later this year) has whispers of Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow and maybe Stevie Nicks, but with other flavours of femme backbone, too, like those of her hero of soulful pop – much obliged to Mary J Blige. Her first single “No More Tears” is regularly heard on Scottish and Australian airwaves, being received extremely positively. The drama behind the making of the album would never make the plots of the wildest fiction writers – it’s too unlikely. From the ferocious landlords who forced her onto the streets, Crazicane and all, to the prince charmless who she downed by applying that same cane to his crown jewels at near take-off speed, it might be fair to say that Sarah Caltieri has had to overcome a few obstacles to get her record made. She’d certainly paid her dues – from “one to watch” in her late teens, performing in local bars and taking singing and acting lessons, she went on to win several leading singing roles in stage productions (e.g. Freedom Sings at Leeds’ West Yorkshire Playhouse; Lucy Brown in The Threepenny Opera, The Tramway, Glasgow). So when she lost her sight as a result of Type 1 Diabetes in her early twenties and the work dried up overnight, she rejected advice from all corners to be “realistic” about expectations and officials saying things like “We need to find you something more realistic, we all have dreams!” - and successfully fought the long haul fight to comeback. While on stage, she caught the ear of Peter Knight Junior, who gave Sarah his mentorship. With positive encouragement from people such as Ray Davies, Chris Difford and Boo Hewerdine, Sarah finally re-established her status as true frontwoman. She honed her craft further with teachers such as Julian Marshall, Reg Mueross and Charlie Dore - now all this Leeds gal had to do was make her killer album. How difficult could it be? On trusted advice, she moved to Scotland to win over the respected producers Duncan and Johnny Cameron, from Riverside Studios. Armed as she is with the voice, songwriting talent, and the kind of charisma that makes people hope her glam will rub off on them, that was the easy bit. Eventually, despite accommodation hiccups such as being separately gassed, carbon monoxide poisoned, frozen and hospitalized with kidney infection, as well as being turfed onto the street for being “difficult” (or asking for what she was paying rent for), Sarah and the Riverside team, with the aid of a lot of veg totties, delivered the new album, remixed by Graham Young. Independent radio stations are now starting to give airplay to the first single “No More Tears”. She’s been no slouch with her acting career, either. Sarah has won multiple awards including the first ever TV and Media Personality of the Year Award presented by the RNC. As well as performing in multiple stage productions and working with Ricky Gervais she was chosen by BBC/ Channel 4 and RSC/ The National Theatre to be a part of the inclusive incentive. Most recently Sarah was picked from 100 applicants to record a scene for Coronation Street by ITV (see youtube). Sarah is an avid campaigner for raising awareness of the serious (often unnecessary) complications of Type 1 Diabetes, as her own life has been marked by a sight loss related to the condition. She has spoken in Westminster as well as Holyrood to raise awareness. As part of her advocacy, Sarah sang her own “Higher than before” on GMTV’s LK Today. The track was also heard on Channel 4 as a part of her Cutting Edge program, which was ‘Pick of the Week’ in most of the major TV reviews, with over 1 million viewers tuning in to watch. She has also performed her original music live on BBC Radio Leeds, ITV’s Calendar News and Castle FM Scotland. Besides media, Sarah has also appeared on stage singing a cappella at Meadowbank Stadium, and on the main stage at Chapel Allerton Festival, in her native Leeds. She co-wrote and sang the theme tune ‘Have a Cuppa Tea’ for the national podcast series Seeing Our History. Now out of the studio, Sarah and her band are currently performing "Something I Couldn't Say...", a collection of songs of life experience from one irrepressible, infectiously upbeat woman. Her first single “No More Tears” which reached top 15 in the Australian Valley FM indie chart is now released and sailing across UK and Australian airwaves. Sarah and her band recently played her hit on STV's Live At Five and delivered an exhilarating performance. "Amazing and very inspiring..." Katie G (Radio Saltire) “What a talent…!” Jamie Heaney (CamGlen Radio) “Keep swimming!” Sarah Caltieri
