The Boswell Sisters was a musical group formed by three New Orleans-born sisters who grew up during the early 20th Century. They devoted their musical efforts to swinging vocal harmonies at a time when early jazz flourished in the streets, first during the Roaring Twenties and later as a remedy to the hard years of the Depression during the 1930s'. The overwhelming talent and creativity of these three women made a huge contribution to the bustling jazz of the time. Nevertheless, they have been relatively forgotten along with many other female composers and performers to whom O Sister! wants to pay tribute in its new release, “Shout, Sister!” (2012). As in the band’s first LP "Crazy People" (2009), O Sister! takes us back once again to the golden age of jazz through a classical repertoire, though vocally and musically reinterpreted. In this second release, Paula Padilla (voice, alto), Helena Amado (voice, soprano), Marcos Padilla (voice, tenor), Matías Comino (guitar), Camilo Bosso (double bass) and Pablo Cabra (drums) delves more deeply into rich vocal harmonies and musical arrangements, achieving a unique sound which could well have been produced during those years. Thus, they venture to create highly personal versions of classics such as “Puttin’ on the Ritz”, “Anything Goes” or the delicate “Dream a Little Dream of Me”. “Shout, Sister!” was recorded at Sputnik Studio in Seville, Spain, using strictly the techniques of that long-gone era: in other words the singers and musicians were recorded performing the numbers together in the same room at the same time, in order to capture the energy and vitality of a live performance. The sessions were enriched with guest musicians such as pianist Angel Andrés Muñoz, clarinettist Juli Aymí, or “manouche” style guitarist Paul Laborda, among many others.
