简介

Yosemite Soundscapes began as a collaboration between scientist, Eric Berlow, and musician Patrick Cress, in 2009. Eric knew all the great spots in Yosemite’s alpine meadows, and brought Patrick along to help convey the emotional and spiritual side of his analytical data through music. The two hiked up to 10,000 feet with a saxophone and a boom mic to capture Patrick's music with nature as a backdrop. Patrick found that his emotional connection to nature was so deep, that it inspired his compositional ideas to really soar. He got psyched to share the spirit of Yosemite with his fellow denizens of the city. “Yosemite Soundscapes” is a collection of short compositions for alto saxophone and bass clarinet, woven together by sounds from the Yosemite backcountry. You'll hear the music of flowing inlets to create theatrical crescendos, falling rocks, as a rhythm section, the tone of frogs to blend with the timbre of the bass clarinet, and conversations between birds and saxophone. The result is a cinematic sound journey that momentarily takes us away from our noisy city lives, and transports us to where the human spirit is uplifted by the serenity of nature. composed by Patrick Cress alto saxophone, baritone saxophone, bass clarinet, vocals, rhodes, and percussion performed by Patrick Cress all field recordings, except “Coyotes”, by Scott Hopkins and “Thunder”, by Steven Bumgardner, recorded by Patrick Cress in Yosemite and the High Sierras. recorded and mixed by Myles Boisen at Guerrilla Recording. mastered by Myles Boisen at the Headless Buddha Mastering Lab artwork by Jeremy Sterling
