简介

Joshua Sitron has written music for Nickelodeon, Disney, and the Girl Scouts of America, including the theme song to hit the TV show "Dora the Explorer". When not writing music for children, he is acting like a child, on stage, with various bands, improv comedy and theater groups around NYC. "FunkeyMonkeys!" his own independent children's project, and currently features 5 CDs and a live show. "After doing all of this children's TV work, I wanted to have some freedom from producers and executives, who are often motivated by corporate interests. "Dora the Explorer" has made me some money, but "FunkeyMonkeys!" came from the heart, with the intention of delighting children and families. The debut album, FunkeyMonkeys, was recorded in the Spring of 2001 at Carlo Nicolau’s Razorhead Music Studios in NYC, and featured the vocal stylings of some of Broadway and TV's best child stars. It's Boots the monkey (a.k.a Harrison Chad) of Dora the Explorer who intones the album's opening call: "All right FunkeyMonkeys! Are you ready?!". Released in the fall of 2001, "FunkeyMonkeys!" was received with wild enthusiasism by 3-year olds and 50-year olds alike. Soon after, Nicolau suggested that they produce a version of FunkeyMonkeys, en Español. In early 2002, Nicolau and Sitron headed to Mexico City and Penhouse Music studios to record. The great Dominguez sisters (aged 8,10, and 12) lent their phenomenal voices to the project, and even gave input as to which playground chants should be included on the record. Leila Colon provided the adult’s voice and Kurt Upper and Luis Tlatoa mixed and mastered back in NY. They emerged with a 5 song EP, featuring ebullient versions of classic spanish-language children’s songs. La Araña Pequeñita - the primordial Itsy Bitsy Spider dressed up in Miami Disco House. La Vaca Lechera - a playground chant becomes old skool hip hop. Los Pollitos Dicen - The little chicken’s peep 70’s style. Think of the end of Steely Dan’s ‘Kid Charlemange’. Mari Mari Mar - the Sailors like reggaeton dancehall. Mi Pequeñita Luz - This Little Light of Mine...I’m gonna let it shine.
