简介
www.weightlessmusic.com Weightless is a Seattle-based band seeking to expand the frontiers of the revitalized neofolk movement. By embracing the arrangement capabilities of digital recording and incorporating electronic elements, they create classic, lyrically-driven songs against a backdrop of folk, trip-hop, dub, and western psychedelic pop. With a Wilco-esque desire to tear down predictable arrangements, they have crafted a uniquely original, yet immediately familiar sound, where the song still holds the centerpiece. Weightless began as a musical collective, The Liminal Criminals, working out of Bob Meyer's home studio in 2004. In 2007 Aaron "Zig" Zuege branched out to release the solo project, "Cranium Miner's Blues". As Zuege assembled a live band from members of the collective, studio songs were brought to life and new songs were written. Recognizing the flourishing group ethic, the band renamed themselves "Weightless" and sought to capture their songs with greater production value. On the eve of their planned recording with Seattle based luminary Scott Colburn (Arcade Fire, Animal Collective) Zuege suffered an enormous personal blow that led to the expulsion of a band member, a failed marriage, and the discontinuation of the recording sessions. In a beautiful display of perseverance and friendship the remaining members decided to relocated Bob Meyer's studio to to their practice space, The Ballard Mine. They took over the lease, refinished floors, soundproofed and upgraded their gear to record "Where All Things Go" by their on hand. Serendipitously, this led to a time frame that allowed for greater musical experimentation. Songs were recorded live and put through Meyer and Zuege's sonic blender, adding new electronic textures and distinctive arrangements. The album title references "Feels Like A River", about the recent passing of Zuege's father and making peace with the place "where all thing go, where all thing grow". Cobbling together a record from the ruins of his former life, Zuege buried himself in the studio to produce and record a very personal, detailed, and sonically rich album that challenges and rewards with repeat listens. Weightless now operate the Ballard Mine as a DIY performance and recording space with intention similar to Broken Social Scene, where they have hosted acts such as Calvin Johnson, Pica Beats, and Hollow Earth's Magma Festival. They place to take their musical fusion of Neil Young, Radiohead, and The Flaming Lips on the road in the months following the release of "Where All Things Go". With their eyes fixed on carving out a space in Seattle's highly competitive scene, the band has perfected an intense, mesmerizing live set that will surely help them win over fans country-wide.
