简介

Over the years, the great state of Texas has given us some of the most dynamic hip hop the world has ever known. It is the land that gave us legendary artists such as the Geto Boys, UGK and, most recently, Lil Flip. Now, there are new names to add to this impressive list of Lone Star State all stars- a six-man unit out of Dallas who call themselves the Dirty South Rydaz. Composed of six of the State's best-known lyricists, Tum-Tum, Big Tuck, Fat Bastard, Double T, Lil Ronnie and Addiction come off like a Southern version of the Wu Tang Clan. Like the Wu, each of the members of Dirty South Rydaz are solo artists who, on their own, are fearsome MCs capable of holding their own on anybody's microphone. But when they come together, they are absolutely unbeatable. DSR is real unique, explains Fat Bastard. Everybody hits the mic with something different. When we all combine it, people be like maaaan!!! When you buy a CD and listen to our lyrics, you gone hear something you ain't never heard before. And you can relate to it. DSR started out as six childhood friends who shared their love for rap music by freestyling to beats. According to Tum Tum, the six ran together on weekends, doing everything from chasing skirts and cracking brews to listening to their favorite rap artists. We crashed a lot of parties, recalls Tum Tum. We was on the wild side. Raised on a steady musical diet of Geto Boys, UGK, Swisha House and the legendary Screwed Up Click, it was inevitable that the six pack of emcees would start to rhyme amongst themselves. After a few years of building their confidence, they recorded a demo tape in a rinky dink studio. Excited by how good they sounded on tape, they took the demo to George Lopez, CEO of T-Town Music, to get his feedback. The owner of the most popular record store in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area, Lopez had already dropped two highly successful compilations in 2000- Northside 45 and North To The South featuring UGK, Slim Thug and Paul Wall and Chamillionaire. George had been looking for new talent for his label T-Town Records at the time and was known to play unsigned artists music in the store for crowd reaction. Both he and his customers loved it them so much that Lopez inked a deal with the sextet on the spot. As soon as I did them two compilations, I was like 'man, I think I can handle a group, he remembers. I was already doing booking and marketing for Swisha House since 1996 as well as distributing their underground discs. By 2001, I knew what I was doing. When I heard these guys rapping and rapping and rapping, I just had to sign them. In 2002, DSR dropped their first underground album Freestyle Massacre with Addiction and Big Tuck. The record demanded respect in the streets of Dallas. They followed up with another underground album From Dallas to da Kappa, which created a huge buzz for DSR and won them some very important fans. Among this instant fan base was Swisha House, Slim Thug, Chamillionaire, Killer Mike, OG Ron C and DJ Michael 5000 Watts, all of whom put some of their songs on their mix tapes, which gave them much needed exposure outside of Dallas. Today, some fourteen mix tapes and four albums later, DSR has become one of the premier rap crews in the South as evidenced in their latest effort, DSR: All Eyes on Us and Big Tuck's solo debut Purple Hulk. Filled with airtight beats and a bevy of braggadocios flows that ooze with blazing lyrics and devastating punch lines, both All Eyes on Us as well as Purple Hulk may well be their best works to date. And certainly they are works that their fans will treasure for years to come.
