简介

Black Mountain Records presents the highly anticipated compilation album "Higher Ground" featuring music from legendary soca artist Ajala, Brother Marvin, Deule (Ninja Band International) and future legend Chocklet. Produced by Frankie McIntosh, Parry Jack, Eddie Quarless, Cherry Ince, and Vincent Harry and engineered by Grammy award winner Cynthia Daniels. This is an excellent record for neophytes to soca and calypso and those who grew up with it. From socially conscious music with stinging social commentary, to spiritual, to party and 'wuk up' music, this compilation contains it all and then some. Keith "Ajala" Sutherland was born in the East Indian Community of San Juan, Trinidad in the Orisha tradition. His career started at a member of the traditional Indian group Night Wind Rebellions in 1974 then 5 years later with local band Kalyan. Ajala went on to form several bands including Metropolitan Superstars, FireFlight and Taxi that led him to join the popular NYC band Axis. In New York City he worked with Keith Diamond, Michael Bolton, James Ingram and Paul Pesco (Chaka Khan/Madonna's lead guitarist). Several labels began their quest to sign Axis, including Arista, CBS, and Sire, but due to family commitments he had to decline. Ajala is world renowned for such classics as "Bring Down The Rhythm", "Behave", "Doh Rock It So", and more. Fans of Ajala call him Mr Energy, because he thrives on high octane soca performances. Ajala has his place reserved in soca’s pantheon. He’s a supreme performer who’s been exciting audiences long before some of today’s soca stars took the stage. The return of acclaimed artist Brother Marvin is indeed a welcome to the Soca and Caribbean music community. One of the originators of chutney soca and performer of such classics as "Brotherhood Of The Boot" , "The Way" and more. He returns with future classic music to be added to his catalog including the spiritual uplifting tune "God Is Talking" and "Why" and the social awarness of his new song "Mr.Gun Man". Brother Marvin through his music signifies a uniquely Trinidadian history, one that need not be the autobiography of any one person but could at the same time function as a symbol of a more general condition of Caribbean creolisation through words and music. Deule is one of the most anticipated artist/vocalist on the Soca music scene in New York City. Lead singer for the group Ninja Band International , they have released several projects and continue to be well sought out for performances throughout the country. Deuel gives a great introduction with his singles "Feel Me" and "Aware Of Carnival" . Elva King a.k.a. Choklet was born on the twin island of Trinidad and Tobago. Choklet migrated to the U.S. to pursue her singing career and joined the Orion band in 2001. She stayed with the band one year and then decided to go solo. Choklet's first album "Hot" was released in 2002. In 2003 her single "Move" had everyone moving all over Europe and the Caribbean. From 2004 to 2005 Choklet's "Jook Na" and "Miami Vibes" ,which are still in rotation at present, took the Caribbean music industry by storm. In 2005 T&T Carnival celebration saw the best of Choklet performing at various television shows and mas camps, where she had numerous encores night after night to her new hit songs "Fire Woman" and "Fire & Water," released that same year. Now Elva "Chocklet" King is back with more new music, making a name for herself in the Caribbean circuit in the United States and abroad with her new infectious party and 'wuk up' singles "Dats The Way They Like It" and "Sweetness". "Higher Ground" is a wonderful testimony to the exciting musical artform that is Soca Music originated by Lord Shorty in the 60's. Trinidad's East Indian and African heritages have never been so completely represented in one CD before. "Higher Ground" is perfect for anyone wanting to expand their scope in Caribbean music and a refreshing return to the talented sons of Trinidad and Soca.
