简介
Set to work through remaining tracks that never saw the light of release, "I Better Not" would be the idea used to redirect these tracks to the back burner. Never using them in previous records due to either bad recording pests such as hiss' and pops, or just a poor sounding mix that usually left these tracks out. Composer James Orton fills this Volume One of "I Better Not" with the dismissal of the end user and settles the sound to be a set of hard nose truth in improvising, letting the most of the tracks just be, without dimming them with too much production. You can hear the microphone not set just right, picking up too much "air" on the acoustic tracks like "Poem Road" and "Rocking Chair". With others seeming to scream dead air on some of the guitar lines. While still dubbing in all of the instruments and playing them all himself, besides drum tracks, James records the story of distances within physical travel and thought as an adolescence. From North to South and the barriers between heard in "Bloodline". The character of the record remains soulful and hearty with production only seeming highest in "Write a Movement". In frustration of letting these compositions go to unperfectedness, the track "Dumb Do Your Thang" expresses the same tolerance to the lack of hospitalities from one human to another in service industries and neighborhoods across America. This being the most notable “Against the Grain” track usually found on all ViewOfAKind records. Yet “This Heat”, a love plea, it almost sounds like a bit too much information. With previous records always including a comic of at least one track, “This Heat”, might be it. For never losing the love for independence and a love for playing the part is all of what cracks on “I Better Not” Volume One from ViewOfAKind and artist James Orton.
