Richie Benson started making music professionally at the age of 15. He went by the stage name 'Pilate' but retired it while he put his career on hold. Before he started to release music again, he self taught himself how to professionally mix and master and also perfected his sound and style with the brilliant mix of African and western cultures he has experienced. He started referring to himself as the 'Island Boy' because everyone who listened to his music told him his voice reminded or made them feel like they were on an island enjoying the vibes.
