简介
Conversations is a landmark album that brings together two of the greatest maestros of the violin: L. Subramaniam and Stéphane Grappelli. Hailed as the "God of the Indian Violin" and "The Emperor of the Violin", L Subramaniam is the creator of the global fusion idiom, apart from being a highly accomplished South Indian classical musician and orchestral composer. In 1973 he joined CalArts to do a master's degree in Western classical composition. Even as a student there he began experimenting with different musical forms. Within a few years, he recorded his first fusion album, Garland and soon began composing Western classical symphonies and concertos. Over the years, he has recorded and composed over a hundred albums collaborating with some of the greatest musicians of all times. Fondly called the "grandfather of all jazz violinists", Stéphane Grappelli was one of the greatest jazz musicians of his generation. He collaborated with several great musicians and was especially recognised for his work with guitarist Django Reinhardt. For several years, he remained one of the top violinists in the jazz world. In 1997 he won the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He died later that year in Paris. "Conversations" began as a conversation between Subramaniam and Grappelli in the green room of the Théâtre des Champs Elysées when Grappelli had come to attend a concert of Subramaniam. With elements of Indian classical music, jazz, Western classical music and folk, Conversations is a true global fusion album. A must-have for any fusion music enthusiast.
