dreamSTATE is the ambient installation sound art project of Toronto-based musicians Scott McGregor Moore and Jamie Todd. Between Realities, dreamSTATE's debut recording, is a mix of deep, lush, and sonorously brilliant sonic spacescapes paired with an air of dense electronified, almost mid-20th century experimentation. Between Realities is very dynamic, and in places McGregor Moore and Todd truly take the listener on a sonic excursion through the ether; in other places, they let the listener sit back with their gifted adaptations of sonic electronic ambience. Between Realities was recorded live during the duo's first performance outings at the H5 Project, a Toronoto holographic gallery where they had a six-month stay. This recording really has a feeling of live ambience to it, as well as almost synthesized, inorganic space. dreamSTATE's Between Realities is a wonderfully assembled and excellently realized rendition of one of the finest live ambient offerings to date. This is a great place to start for those not familiar with dreamSTATE and their growing body of work.
