Modern was a true family affair, run by the four Blhari brothers in L.A., they handled all aspects of the operation. Modern soon established a reputation for putting out quality records by up-and-coming R&B artists, and in time they released sides by some of the greatest blues acts of the era. This compilation is a fitting tribute to one of the real visionary independent record labels of the era and is crammed full of highlights from the likes of John Lee Hooker, Etta James and Elmore James.
