Boo Ray wondered out west in '05 and found nearly the same Los Angeles he'd heard of in stories about Kris Kristofferson, Gram Parsons, Jerry Reed, Emmylou Harris, and Lucinda Williams. Boo Ray says "There's something magic about being homesick for fish & grits and sweet tea while you're writing songs & living on Hollywood Boulevard." Boo Ray's new record, "Bad News Travels Fast" is a collection of songs written and recorded across the country with some great producers and players in '08&'09. Half of the record was recorded in Los Angles with producer Noah Shain(Praying Hands, Nico Vega, Orson) and Zander Schloss(The Circle Jerks). The LA sessions had players like Steve Feronne(Tom Petty & The HeartBreakers)drums, Paul ILL(Alicia Keys/Christina Augulairia)bass, Martyne Le Noble(Porno for Pyros)bass and Zander Schloss-mandolin/bouzouki/guitar. The songs are laden with fierce guitar & mandolin picking and authentic hillbilly harmonies. They express Boo Ray's love for his southern homeland and his fellow musicians and his uncompromising demand for great songwriting. The other half was recorded on Boo Ray's return to the dirty south, with players like David Blackmon-fiddle, William Tonks-resonator guitar, Edward Hunter-mandolin, John Wayne Tuggle-electric slide, producer Reid Geisenhof and producer John "Q" Kegler in Atlanta. Boo Ray came back to Athens for songwriting appointments with Mike Dekel and Brantley Gilbert. While in Nashville with them Boo Ray met Colin Linden(O Brother Where Art Thou). Boo Ray & Colin wrote the title track "Bad News Travels Fast" together. He also met Louisiana singer/songwriter Jodi James in Nashville. The two of them have recorded the duet "These Days" for this record and will be recording and releasing two more songs together before springtime.
