简介
Provocative to the very end, Zombie Zombies return heralds a new, but altogether understandable, tangent for the French duo to stalk. If the output of Herman Dunes drummer Cosmic Neman and French electro pioneer musician Etienne Jaumet previously used the duos love of analogue equipment, Theremin and delay pedals to conjure up a hallucinogenic nightmare, now they take their horror imbued aesthetics forwards once more. Zombie Zombie plays John Carpenter is the next logical step on their journey into the alt-kraut, minimal ambience induced reverie of their own psychoses. Reinterpreting the work of genre master and composer Carpenter, this release combines live, militaristic rhythm, minimal synth lines and intimated fear to push the legendary film makers vision into something horrific yet beautiful, dark yet beguiling. Produced by French visionary Joakim, the album's an intense snapshot of three artists pushing each other further into the depths of disco's dark side, Kraut's unremitting melody. Carpenter himself said /Movies are pieces of film stuck together in a certain rhythm, an absolute beat, like a musical composition. The rhythm you create affects the audience/. Zombie Zombie certainly seem to have taken heed, each track begs for response, ask questions of the listener as much as of themselves. Context decrees connotation, but this release sets out to experiment with those connotations, more an attempt to discover, and challenge, exactly what music can mean. No cheap scares then, these open compositions traverse the highlights of Carpenters back catalogue The Thing, Assault On Precinct 13, Halloween in search of new frontiers, whilst resuming the Parisians musical love affair with the likes of Can, Neu!, Suicide and Raymond Scott. The sound eddies and flows around the original composers concepts with the capriciousness that only these two artists could actualise, whilst retaining the resonance of what made them be in the first place. With a sound as depth full as the end of time, immerse yourselves in the minds of two artists whose intuitive parallelism consistently breeds fascination. This is music for the ears, head, mind, soul, dont miss out.
