The Conscious Minds Band was formed in 1969 by Harris BB Seaton - Lead & Rhythm Guitars / Vocals and its members Ken Boothe - Vocals / Organ, Ricardo Grant / Vocals, Maurice Roberts- Vocal / Bass, Joe White- Vocals / Piano, Willie Brakenridge -1st Trumpet, Clive Scott - 2nd Trumpet, Winston Bryan- Tenor Sax, Derrick Hinds -Trombone, Derrick Stewart - Drums, Shan Fallen - Percussion. During this period most bands in Jamaica only played at clubs as dance bands but BB decided that he wanted a band for live shows only. He then rehearsed a one hour show for three months and appeared for the first time at the VIP club along with a top dance band, Byron Lee & the Dragonaires. It was really mind blowing as this would be the first show band in the Jamaican history and people were flabbergasted with the concept. The Conscious Minds became well known as a show band as their brass section came from the Jamaica Military Band and was reminiscent of the Carlos Malcolm era. Most of the bands arrangement were refreshing and it was good to hear some fine horns for a change....these were the words of Julian Jingles of the Jamaican Daily Gleaner. They also backed the Wailers at Curphey Place which gave them the idea to form the Wailers Band. They did several recording sessions backing artists like Derrick Harriott, Tony Brivette on his hit recording "Don't Get Weary" and the Jamaicans vocal group to name a few.
