The premise behind Hold On is the realization of a father that his child will one day grow up and face incredibly difficult days and trying times in life, and the fact that the father will not always be able to comfort him as he does now. The lyric "you can't outrun the sun" is interspersed with "you can't out run this, son" which is a reference to a fathers undying love for his child.

MC3PO adds a new dimension with an added third verse, conveying this sentiment very succinctly but with an entirely new dimension. Captivating, emotive, and expressive, especially in live performance.
