Even though I feel it's musically stronger than some other songs on that album, it simply didn't stylistically fit on that album, so it got put on the shelf. There was a vocal melody that Buzz (Saylor - Simon Apple drummer) and I worked on, but never quite solidified. Buzz wrote a lyric, but I don't think that was ever 100% complete either... the lyric and melody were in the ballpark, but were never fully tweaked - especially after we realized it didn't stylistically fit anyway." This is another song, like "Taken Root" (from River To The Sea album) and "Can You Hear Me" (Jeff Miller single), that has a strong Pat Metheny Group influence. I've always loved the romanticism of Spanish/Latin based music - like Chick Corea, or some Pat Metheny Group stuff that delves into that area, and I tried to capture that vibe with my own little twist/style."
