简介
Theo Bard is a man on a mission. Whether rocking late-night shows with his band, spellbinding listening audiences with his beautiful, heartfelt songs and storytelling to match, or singing his unique urban folk songs as a vagabond one-man-band busker, Theo always brings a music and a vibe that feels just right. The same is true of his legendary Woodburner nights, which attract an avid underground following wherever they happen. An honest and distinctive voice, deep guitar styles, uplifting grooves and life-loving lyrics combine to make a sound that is both timeless and contemporary. Hook it all onto catchy melodies and beats to lift your feet and you find an exceptional artist drawing sounds from across the musical spectrum, reflecting the diversity of his beloved London. You Give EP charts a series of relationships - people, places and experiences that have formed and shaped Theo as a musician and as a human. Co-produced by Theo and drummer Tansay Omar, some of London's finest musicians are on display with string expertly handled by violin virtuoso Max Baillie (recently featured on BBC 2 for a The Proms special), bass by Harry Deacon (Kid Wave) and fantastic backing vocals from Louisa Jones (Whiskey Moon Face) and others. The eerie, chanted opener Never Alone flits between an affirmation of close ties, and an almost desperate cry to never be alone. Musically it sits on driving, hypnotic blues guitar riff, with sterling work from Boxcar Joe Strouzer guesting on harmonica, and a whole choir of backing vocalists creating a huge texture of layered harmonies for the climactic end to the song. You Give is the perfect antidote, as Theo recalls arrival in an unfamiliar city, only to make solid friendships which have stood the test of time. A hugely memorable chorus, and a unique finger-picking pattern bring back the memories of special times with excellent people, and of course, the one and only Felix' van! Evil Eyes is probably the standout track on the EP, with layered vocals from Louisa Jones the perfect accompaniment to earthy tales of soul-searching, and an uplifting chorus which takes us higher and higher. The vibe is pure London, captured beautifully on the river Lea in the music video for this track. Burning Wood Tonight is a song which celebrates London musical life, from a Bard's perspective. Referencing many of Theo's favourite busking spots and Woodburner venues, it's a little slice of London sunshine with an African tilt, which never fails to get feet moving. Which brings us to the final track on the EP. The most heartfelt of all, a direct and powerful message of affirmation to a friend in difficulty, Time to Live sends a message to us all of the power of positivity.
