After first moving to Melbourne in 2007 Simon put together a backing band with traditional soul instrumentation. The result "The Eclective" enjoyed mild successes amongst Melbourne Australia's live music scene including a memorable two year residency at Melbourne's iconic Evelyn Hotel. Simon Wright had a passionate underground following for their three years together as a band before going their separate ways in 2012.

The band was made up of Tristan McCoppin (guitar, backing vocals), Owen Downie (bass), Travis Constable (Drums), Andrew Vollmer (Keys, Sax, backing vocals), Oscar O'Brian (Trumpet), Gus Rigby (Saxophone), Phil Binotto (Percussion) and Simon Wright (Acoustic guitar and vocals).
