简介
Since forming in 2001, Palenque has energized audiences with an uplifting style of Cuban music called Son Montuno, made popular by artists such as the Buena Vista Social Club and Compay Segundo. Palenque refers to the mountain communities in Cuba formed by runaway slaves during the Spanish colonial era. Palenques were symbols of freedom, strength and resistance, as well as bastions of culture, dance and musical expression. The band is led by Germán Donatien, a graduate of the National School of Music in Cuba and former member of Cuba's National Opera. Soy Montuno, the group's debut CD, features Germán's lyrical original compositions and distinctive voice. The band also pays tribute to the traditional music of great Cuban artists such as Ibrahim Ferrer, Celia Cruz, and Eliades Ochoa, pleasing dancing crowds at their sizzling live shows. The blend of enticing melodies, a warm family vibe, and irresistible Afro-Cuban rhythms raises spirits and inspires audiences to move their feet.
