Combining musical influences, from the likes of Blackfoot and Travis Tritt, and lyrical influences, from the likes of Guy Clark and John Prine, Ryan Harmon presents a sound that's fresh, yet familiar. Ryan's been playing and singing since age 11, and has been performing since age 12. After playing on and off with other local musicians, Ryan began performing as a solo artist, and writing his own music. His first solo performance was at the Arkansas Oklahoma State Fair in Fort Smith in 2009, one year after being a Top 20 finalist in the 5News Youth Talent Contest. Almost 10 years later, Ryan continues to perform at various clubs, fairs, and festivals throughout the region. Ryan's debut album, simply titled "Ryan Harmon," captures the raw energy of his live performances, further proving that a solo acoustic act doesn't have to be quiet background music. Starting with the rocking, early Johnny Cash influenced, "Hold On Sally," and the country/blues shuffle of "Just Another Heartache," Ryan's singing and guitar playing are at the center. While most of the album is nothing but acoustic guitar and vocals, Ryan also plays banjo on three songs; the emotional life journey "Find Your Heart," the powerful Bruce Springsteen/Bob Seger inspired "Ride The Wind," and the humorous, yet true, country heartbreak anthem "You Left, My Dog Died, and My Heart Did, Too." The format of the new album, as well as the live performances, also allows Ryan's songwriting to drive the music, with hard-hitting songs like "I'm Coming Home," the story of a traumatized soldier, and "Take A Little Time," a simple reflection on the past. Rounding out the album is the dark bluegrass song, "Melissa," and "Do It All Again," a love song that will please fans of modern and classic country music.
