USSA Pleasuredome, described by the Baltimore City Paper as a "droney darkside, post-everything band," is sometimes a full band, sometimes just one man, but now usually a duo. What started in 1999 as Greg Scelsi's bedroom cassette project grew into the darker, more experimental side of styles now reductively described as "post-rock." Greg Scelsi produces the bass, synth, and occassional vocal loops while guitarist Brian Miller adds layers of looped textures and melodies. Percussion is usually handled through loops of tape-recorded live drumming or occasionally an analog drum machine sample. The songs swell and swirl, build and dissolve with each song rising from the last song's black ashes. The live performances may reflect more aggressive versions of the recordings, or may involve wispy, ambient improvisations. The band is currently playing and touring to support their first full-length record, Icon, and for an upcoming split CD with Time Columns.
