Spiv defies categorization. Describing Spiv's music is like describing the color green. Although they don't incorporate much Gamelan or Polynesian rhythms, they have nonetheless been exposed to so many styles that have somehow made their way into the mix that By Definition ends up sounding like a compilation album. "Make the Best of It" is distinctly Primus. "All the Same" recalls Kurt Cobain. "Hornet's Nest" could have been recorded with Billy Childs. The somewhat schizo nature of this puts them in a hard to define category, but in a good way.
