简介

Several are happy to offer The Problem with Time for your listening pleasure. This album features fifteen songs about time, love, nature, the weather, peace, and home. The Problem with Time ranges from folk to rock to alt to pop to coin a new musical genre, frap rock. If that makes you think that we just really like coffee that's not wrong. The album begins with two pop songs about time and relationships exploring the connection between experience and memory in both the present and the future. The title track offers a thesis for the album, that time-as a problem-keeps us from our goals. We work against time through inspiration, invocation and desperation, but procrastination might in the end be our truth. With "12 fires of harold" and "teach" the mood of the album shifts into straight folk and two lessons about love and constancy. The next two songs form a bridge between folk and rock. The first, "the river", is a classic love song which looks to the possibility of future union amidst geographical distance. "the sea" reverses the connection between geography and time and offers a reflection on the perfect storm and its crushing immediacy. The next two songs are full on alt-rock tunes which explore tradition, memory, space and the possibility of human community, in "clover" between europeans and first nations peoples, and in "grace" in the experience of radical religious reformers who move from europe to the americas. The next four songs offer occasional reflection of our experience of time as a problem. "land of sun" is written from the perspective of someone looking back on their youth and the betrayal of insight that their life has become. The primacy of the natural world in our experience of the world is held up in "nature mother nature". "jenn" is a reflection on loneliness. The folk tradition of the protest song is evoked by "fight". The climax of the album occurs with the folk-pop anthem "home" which evokes a sense of blessing on the buildings which give shape to our lives. The denouement focuses on the immediacy of grief with "teardrops" which features a poem by Cindy T. who penned these lyrics when she was 8. The problem with time may be that we have our best insights early and then spend the rest of our lives reshaping them. Or it may not. That's the problem with time. So, pour yourself a cup of coffee, and wait to see what comes.
