Blossoms and Briars features songs from the green isles of Ireland and Scotland and England that tickle the imagination and touch the heart. Selections range from witty to soulful and remind us that love and life bring both joy and sorrow. The subtitle of the CD was originally intended to be “Songs of Love”. But throw in a few fairies, a winged archer, a rebellion or two and couple of saucy ladies in men’s pants, and things get a bit more complicated. In both love and mischief sometimes it’s blossoms and sometimes its briars. A little of each keeps life interesting…..

Nancy Davis lives, performs and teaches in the Pacific Northwest. She has been a musician since the age of five when she began studying the piano. Though she’s played many instruments over the course of her life, the harp has become her primary instrumental focus. Davis began her vocal training at a young age and has performed in coffee houses, theaters and concert halls in a wide range of genres. While this is the second CD for Ms. Davis it is her first to feature vocals. She sings with a pure, sweet voice and a spirit of fun. Her harp accompaniments are both imaginative and sensitive, whether adding syncopation to the up-tempo “Martinmas Time”, echoing the ebb and flow of the sea in “The Fisherman’s Song” or underlining the sparse and lonely grief of “The Wind that Shakes the Barley”.
