简介

Intro 23 year old producer Dark0 resides in North West London. He spent his school years in the same place as members of well known Grime crew "SLK" and therefore grew up with the sound in its most forefront time. Dark0's interaction with grime music was one both musically and culturally, this sensibility in evident within the production. He has put out several self-releases e.g. "I aint no sweet boy" with success but this is his first official release. What is most appealing with Dark0 within grime music were the senses of it being "chaotic and reckless" that therefore created a sense of empowerment, refereeing to the competitiveness of the genre. These attitudes still resound in Dark0 today as he's not afraid to show his personality. For me this is a trait is what I like to see in someone who's attached to "Grime," it’s also this attitude that has inspired the title of the E.P. “Sin.” E.P The real strength of this E.P is its catchy melody lines that interchange from an 8 & 16 bar structure creating a sense of progression yet subtly maintaining the traditional blueprint associated with Grime music. The main factor that underpins Dark0’s music is his belief that melody is the key driving force behind his tracks describing them as a “virus you cannot shake off." “Chaos” is a prime example of this with arpeggiated riffs floating about effortlessly. When asked about the invention of this track Dark0 explains for him it’s his anthem for "my boys to go nuts, spray bars, pop bottles." Moving onto “Phobos” we are met with silky synth flute sounds combined with dirty distorted bass, and camera click sfx. Something that could have sounded so pleasant is twisted into something way more raw and gritty. The reason for this is that this track represents London for him in its terms of constant surveillance and looks to emphasise the darker side to the city where the first viewing may seem fine. “Skelly” is one of Dark0's earlier productions first heard in 2012 on Madam X’s 1xtra Show.. It was created to set a statement that Grime aesthetics are still very much relevant in today’s environment before the resurgence has really taken off. With its ‘Mondie’ like bass pulse coupled with smooth synth pads and quick slick melodies it has been a winner in a lot of sets. On the remix duty of "Phobos" is another Lost Codes artist Filter Dread. Filter Dread takes the strengths of “Phobos” and somehow manages to make it more brutal with constant changes in rhythm that make it extremely high energy. Filter Dread again shows why he is one to watch this year and beyond. Finally we end at "Jinn." - Quite different to the other Dark0 tracks on this E.P I think it brings a nice calm after the storm of what is Filter Dread's Remix. It also shows Dark0's versatility as this tune is way more of a floaty dream to get lost in. The track represents freedom from situations once trapped in showing there is a beauty in what is first perceived as a painful time, a sense of learning, rediscovering. Overall I believe this is Dark0 strongest work as it implicates that Dark0 is a master of creating tracks that are very musical but able to destroy clubs in their own right.
