简介

“The best way to describe Ben Cook -Feltz’s music may be Paul Simon singing songs about broken hearts and pants.” –Iowa Public Radio “A talented keyboardist and honey -toned vocalist that deftly combines musical smarts and a great pop-rock sensibility." -Jessica Paxton, KYMN Radio Iowa -raised, Minneapolis-based Ben Cook-Feltz is a singer, songwriter, drummer and self-taught pianist. Combining observational, sometimes quirky lyrics with melodies that hearken back to the classic sounds of the 60s and 70s, he has been entertaining audiences throughout the Midwest as a dynamic performer, whether playing solo, with his crackerjack band, or backing up some of the finest regional talent. Releasing his highly anticipated album She Doesn't Believe Me on October 23, 2015, Ben Cook-Feltz emerges as a true songwriting talent who has hit his stride with his most confident and personal album to date. “When I was younger, I always felt like I was trying to prove something and make a defining statement of some kind,” Cook-Feltz says. “After I turned 30, I just stopped caring about that and was able to write more honestly and let the music speak for itself.” Cook-Feltz co-produced the album with long-time collaborator Peter Remiger and worked with his local band that has been playing together for nine years. Featuring bassist Andy Schuster (Wild Colonial Bhoys, The Federales), guitarist Cole Mickelson (Vonnie Kyle) and a talented cast of rotating drummers, Cook-Feltz’s band demonstrates a unique ability to straddle rock, pop, jazz and roots styles with a playful humor that has made them a hit at live shows. The album showcases lush harmonies and rich arrangements along with a who’s who of special guests, including Jillian Rae, Tony Ihrig (The High 48s), Mother Banjo, Vonnie Kyle (Mark Mallman), Brent Fuqua and his former Federales bandmates Ben Miller and Karl Wahoske. The album kicks off with the autobiographical Americana number “The Ballad of Karl Benjamin” and then goes on to a range of skillfully produced tracks like the radio-friendly rock tune “If You Want Me” (co-written with Art Vandalay front man Brandon Henry), Cook-Feltz’s Boyz II Men homage “Juliet” and the album’s quirky title track “She Doesn’t Believe Me” about love and alien abduction. Alongside these fun band tunes are some heartfelt songs like the album closer “Wedding Bells and Vinyl Shelves” and “The Memory of Your Name,” written for his childhood friend on the occasion of his untimely death in 2014. Poignant and timeless, tracks like these prove that Cook-Feltz is a first-rate songwriter ready for a bigger stage.
