简介
Dee Dee McNeil is a singer/composer who produces/arranges and has a long history as a contract songwriter with early Motown. Her music has been recorded by such stellar artists as Diana Ross & the Supremes, Gladys Knight & the Pips, David Ruffin, Nancy Wilson, The Four Tops, Edwin Starr, Bob Marley’s wife, Rita Marley, and many more. She has composed eight of the ten songs on this latest session. She was one of the first female rappers recorded in 1970 as part of the West Coast group of poets labeled “The Watts Prophets,” but her musical roots have always been deeply embedded in jazz. She’s a con-sistent activist for women’s rights and human rights. That activism is reflected in the lyrical content of this album. She won the 2001 BET (Black Entertainment Television Network “Jazz Discovery Contest”) and has performed in over 23 countries worldwide; often includes original poetry in her concert appearances.
