Kidd Jordan returns with his unique brand of fire-blues-free-jazz. When you hear his staccato phrases circling Harrison Bankhead s skewed bowing in the opening of the 25-minute first track Speaking in Tongues, you know that everybody, including the listener, is gonna get pushed around. Sandwiched between the two extended pieces that open and close the record, the Jordan/Bankhead duet Waves of Birds is a tightly-knit and undulating saxophone/cello flyover. On Fire 2 wraps up with the tender Coming Down Blue as the rapid-fire bursts make way for the mournful wailing sound of three underrecognized free jazz veterans keepin on down the road.
