Roberto Diaz alias Blackie Fontana began rapping because he got tired of going to prison — something he says has helped him stay out of prison. Originally from South Fontana, California — hence the name — Fontana pulls from his experiences on the streets to create his music, which he says more rap artists should do. “I’ve always felt like rap music should be real,” he said. “But these artists aren’t real. They’re fake — they’re not about what they talk about.” Fontana considers himself to be a Chicano Rapper — a label he proudly embraces. Prior feud with his old record label of HiPower Entertainment has lead Blackie Fontana to create his own, Hoodlum Ent.
