简介

Thrahimam means: My soul thirsts for you. This is a Telugu Gospel Music Album consisting of old Telugu Christian Keerthanas. Encouraged by the reception of the first album “Thrahimam”, the second album entitled Thrahimam-2 was initiated and the production is completed. Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, the first Grammy award winner from India, has played for 2 songs in the album. Ustad Feroz Khan the acclaimed harmonium player of none other than Mehdi Hasan has played in one track. The main violinist of the celebrated ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, Deepak Dutt has played in it. Apart from these musicians, other legendary musicians playing are Rajendra Singh on the Swarlin, Zareen Sharma on the Sarod, Rasheed Khan on the Bulbul Tarang, Rajesh Vaidya on the Veena, Stephen Devassy on the Keyboard. More than 200 musicians, have worked on this album, which was recorded across in more than 10 recording studios across Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Trivandrum. All the music in the album has been played by seasoned musicians, and not synthesized from computers. It took nearly 7 months to complete the album. It is a very rich fare indeed. “Thrahimam 2” is set for release on 19th April 2013, in Hyderabad. The album “Thrahimam 2” has 12 beautiful songs, and 6 music videos, and is packaged as a twin disc pack. The Music Director, Kamlakhar has been working in films as a flautist for nearly 25 years (Telugu/Tamil/Hindi etc). He is an amazing collaborative musician and has worked with the likes of Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan etc. It is interesting to note that he worked with George Harrison (The Beatles) in his last Album - Chants of India - which was recorded mainly in Chennai in 1996. Kamlakhar has directed music for Telugu films like Pranam and Vaana. The 10 songs are ancient Telugu Christian Hymns that are nearly forgotten and not sung anymore. These hymns were written more than 200 years ago by poets like Purushottam Choudary. However these Hymns have been rendered anew with music that is of the world fusion genre, using the best musicians in India. There are two new songs that have been written and composed afresh. Knowing fully well that the hymns have been around for so many years, we were aware that there have been several versions of these same songs done and sung by so many people. So the challenge to raise the bar high was very great. We wanted to elevate the songs to another level both artistically and musically. A lot of emphasis was therefore given to keep the songs true to their original Carnatic flavour, and yet render them anew keeping in touch with the times.
