Port Townsend band Solvents is celebrating the release of its latest CD, Madonica. According to Jarrod Bramson, songwriter and producer for the band, it's taken two years to finish the disc. "I layed down the drum tracks a couple years ago and slowly started building the songs, adding guitars, bass, organs and vocals. I took it easy, feeling no need to rush the process," he said. Madonica is a strange and intriguing sonic landscape, where multi-layered guitars, marimbas and organs collide with violins and reverb-drenched drums. Bramson calls it a "fantasy" record. "I wanted to make something that I've never heard before. Something totally unreal and far out. I feel like we did that." The CD also includes a booklet of new color photographs by local artist Ruby Fitch. The images, all taken in Port Townsend this winter, are presented alongside the lyrics. "Jarrod and I both grew up in Port Townsend, and feel very connected to this place," says Fitch. "Jarrod saw the photographs I had been taking, and they resonated with him. We put together what I think is a strange and beautiful souvenir of our town at the end of world."
