简介

Voice, the acclaimed British vocal ensemble from Oxford, England, formed in 2006. The trio explores repertoire that is diverse while being complementary: performing works by Hildegard of Bingen and other early masters; traditional songs and arrangements from around the world; and contemporary compositions. In 2013, they launched their debut album Musical Harmony: a carefully crafted selection of songs defining Voice's distinctive sound, which includes six pieces by established British composers, commissioned by the trio. Voice is a regular collaborator with composers, musicians, artists, and poets. Over the years, they have devised and commissioned a number of unique and exciting projects. In 2011, they received PRSF support for a composition by Marcus Davidson, The Ziggurat Builders, based on a poem by Iraqi Assyrian poet Sargon Boulus. This project also involved ‘ud player, Khyam Allami, and cellist Tara Franks. In 2012, Voice worked with composer Stevie Wishart as part of the WOW Festival (Women of the World) at the Royal Festival Hall, where they performed her new piece O Choruscans Lux Stellarum, with the Voicelab choir, directed by Mary King. More recently, Voice toured the UK with a project called Megaphones for the Unheard. The project explored the voice of women through music and poetry and was a collaboration with poet, Jamsine Ann Cooray, and four British composers commissioned by Voice to create a suite of songs inspired by the theme. They also worked with early music instrumental ensemble, Dufay Collective, performing 'A Distant Mirror: Machaut, Mannerism and the Medieval Mind' at Dartington International Summer School 2013. Voice have performed at festivals across the UK and in Europe. In 2013 they made there debut performance in Bucharest as part of EUROPAfest, in Brussels at La Chappelle de Verre, and in the USA with Baylin Artists Management. In the run-up to their debut USA tour, Voice received funding from Arts Council England to perform at APAP NYC. In 2014 Voice will tour their album in the UK and Europe-wide and develop new residencies and projects in the lead up to their second tour of the USA in February 2015.
