简介
Three years in the making, Reflexive is 41-year-old Pittsburgher Steven Little's solo debut. Soulful and provocative, the eclectic musical tapestry is woven from a collection of compositions that together defy a singular genre. Acoustic-Electronic is the paradoxical undercurrent - as acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums, and synthesizers of various flavors all intermingle into cohesive and recurrent themes. I Missed Tomorrow Again lyrically considers what really matters and the preciousness of time, dreams, and life without regrets. In Experimetal, guitar and bass play off synthesizers dancing amid a shifting sonic surf. The storm warnings sounded by the synthesizers in Bolt of Lightning leave only a short notice of the impending explosion of electricity. Triplicate finds three guitars swirling, and in Chasing Angels, the forces of good and evil wage battle. Electric Seahorse uniquely dips amid eddies - with the seahorse's underwater dance. Mystic (Cosmix) is thematic glue -- with riffs reprised acoustically in Delicate Touch -- yet like Electric Seahorse remains ambiently independent. The title track Reflexive layers guitars, drums, and synthesizers in a joyful fanfare. Crushing The Darkness playfully pokes fun at the paradox of distance in interpersonal relationships while modern gadgetry provides ubiquitous connectedness (also, how many songs can you name that have "luminescence" in the lyrics?). In the purely electronic Floating, a powerful twenty-two bar pattern repeats with heavy toms while synthetic sound shimmers. Life, If Not Lived brings an ethereal and unrelenting sadness, yet answers hopefully with the title and final line. The Whispering Pines are synthetic strings on a pensive journey, with crystalline whispers periodically appearing as if snow falling gently, expectantly. Finally, in Delicate Touch, quiet solace and peace, a visit by a most beautiful angel, bringing full circle a fitting closing to the light and airy prelude of A Jazz Snippet.
