简介

The first solo release from Washington DC Native Andaiye , STORYVILLE showcases an ever-evolving singer, songwriter, producer and performer. Her jazz collection STORYVILLE delivers a fresh spin on classic jazz standards and features songs such as "God Bless The Child" and "Summertime". Andaiye offers new but timeless interpretations of songs from the Great American Jazz Songbook and wrote many additional verses, bridges and spoken word prose as additions to the otherwise short jazz tunes. Other songs such as "You Oughta Know" and "Love Alive" reveal her musical ear as an arranger as evidenced by the reworking of these classic rock songs into soulful renditions of love lost. Andaiye offers a glimpse of the future on the only original song on the project entitled "Much Betta" as a bonus track showcasing her jazz roots with her neo-soul adolescence. Influenced by contemporary artists such as Liz Wright and Meshelle Ndegeocello, Andaiye's alto voice on STORYVILLE is sultry and soulful. THE BAND: The project features some of the best musicians in the DC Metro area. Sam Prather (keys/piano), Tosin Aribisala (drums/percussion), Wardell Howell (bass guitar), Dan Paul (engineer/keys), Herb Scott (alto sax), Brock Smith (electric guitar), and Philly's own Pablo Batista (percussion). THE STORY: Storyville was the red-light district of New Orleans, Louisiana, from 1897 through 1917. Bold and rebellious, Storyville was wrought with brothels in its heyday. Storyville is credited with being the breaking ground for many great jazz artists such as Louis Armstrong, Buddy Bolden and Ann Cook. It is in this spirit that the project is named Storyville to pay homage to those that honed their skills and played their stories in the midst of all the "bad influences" New Orleans had to offer. Andaiye's STORYVILLE delivers A little cajun spice with a side of sexy that only the chocolate city deliver!
