Crowe Brothers专辑介绍:by Rick AndersonThis album was recorded in the mid-1980s when the Crowe Brothers were beginning to emerge from the shadow of banjoist Raymond Fairchild, in whose band they had been playing for a number of years. Originally released on the Skyline label, it fell out of print quickly and has now been reissued on Copper Creek. Guitarist Josh and bassist Wayne Crowe are deeply influenced by the "brother duet" tradition of pre-bluegrass mountain music, and especially by the work of Charles and Ira Louvin. In fact, the majority of this program consists of Louvin Brothers songs, including "Make Him a Soldier," "The Gospel Way," and "Born Again." The Crowes sing in a style that recalls the Louvins almost eerily, and with Fairchild expert backing on banjo the combination -- their old-time harmonizing and the more sprightly bluegrass accompaniment -- is very effective. A couple of songs (in particular "God Bless Her ('Cause She Is My Mother)") cross the line into mountain kitsch, but for the most part, the music on this album is convincingly delivered and powerfully sung.
