简介

Born in Seattle in 1961, Art grew up frequently attending concerts at the Opera House listening to his mother sing with the Seattle Choral. He began his own musical journey playing harmonica by age 11, a decision that would ultimately dictate the trajectory of his life. Always a passionate fan of the Rhythm and Blues genre, Patience majored in Blues history and music studies at The Evergreen State College as a young man, earning his performance stripes in various bands and venues of the Pacific Northwest throughout the eighties. Eventually, life drew Patience down to Arizona in the early nineties, where he lent his talents to the incredible R and B band, “Blue Z”. There, in the venues of Northern Arizona, Patience pushed his limits to create the utterly raw - yet soulful - harmonica player he is today. After returning to the Northwest in the mid nineties, a chance meeting with world-renowned pianist Scott Cossu would further shape Art’s musical life. Cossu and Patience collaborated extensively on live performances, touring together for over 17 years until present day in well known venues such as Jazz Alley in Seattle, WA, The Sheridan Opera House in Telluride, CO, Swallow Hill in Denver, CO, and the Steamplant Performing Arts Center in Salida, CO. In addition, Patience’s harmonica is featured on Scott’s latest Boogie Woogie and Jazz CD on Summit Records. Now Patience reveals another side of his artistry with his foray into the world of solo singer- song writer. Patience’s creations draw on the rich traditions of Americana, Folk, and Country- all while retaining a sense of his signature R and B swagger. Patience’s debut album was recorded at Twisted Penguin Studios in Anchorage, Alaska and has just been released. “Loud as a Dream” blends his life experiences with his music- the title track paying homage to a Vietnam Veteran he knew personally. “It’s a very powerful, sparse song I wrote for a man I knew in the early 1980s when I worked as a paraprofessional counselor who was suffering severely from PTSD… the song focuses in on that awareness,” says Patience. The other songs run the gamut of life, love lost, love gained, and of course, Rockabilly. “I just can’t help myself,” says Patience with a laugh. “It’s one of the healthiest addictions in the world”. “Art’s harmonica sings straight from the heart”- Lee Oskar “His songs tell their own story yet flow together like pieces of a tapestry”- Crestone Eagle “Art set his collection of mouth harps on fire and made them wail”- Salida Mountain Mail
