This CD, our second album, is a reflection of the people and places we've met while traveling Highway 1 from Jacksonville to the Keys. Highway 1 is a Trop Rock Band based out of Melbourne, Florida. The Band was formed in 2010 by founder and front man Joel Thomas Cook (JT) and has grown in popularity around the state of Florida and beyond over the past six years. The Band won the “Entertainer of the Year Award” from Brevard Live Magazine in 2014 and has been recognized as one of Florida’s top “Jimmy Buffet Tribute Bands” Our first CD “On Vacation with Highway 1” is played on several Trop Rock radio stations around the country and has been in the Top Forty for over a year. Who is Highway 1: The Band is comprised of Joel Thomas Cook (JT) on acoustic guitars and lead vocals, Terry (Tea) Wallace on bass, harp, back up vocals and steel drum, Scottie Searls on drums and Bruce Marion on lead guitar, back up vocals and key boards. They also add additional players when the venue or show calls for it. They play an eclectic mix of music in a style that they like to refer to only as “Island Rock & Roll. but is technically called “Trop-Rock”. Although today tropical rock is usually associated with Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Cheney it comes from southern Florida and the Gulf Coast of the United States, the roots of tropical rock are also based in the Southern California beach music of the 1960s of artists like Jan and Dean, The Beach Boys and other Surf Bands.
