Earl Carter’s Biography At the age of eleven, musician/producer 'Earl Carter' bought a couple of how to books and started teaching himself to play the guitar. At age fifteen, he picked up the saxophone and joined his high school concert band, marching band and jazz ensemble. He practiced diligently on guitar, bass and alto sax in hope of someday becoming a professional musician. Although proficient on all three instruments, he eventually decided to focus on guitar as his primary instrument. However, most of his formal training was on the sax. He soon joined 14 Karat which consisted of other talented musicians such as Dwayne "Smitty" Smith and Wayne Bruce. During the late '80s and early '90s, Earl was a member of the platinum hit-making dance/GoGo band, "EU." With EU, he recorded music on the soundtrack to Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing and the GoGo Live music video. In 1999, Earl laid several guitar tracks for artists at Diddy's New York City recording facility, "Daddy's House." He has also co-produced dialogue recordings with his production partner J.R. Fenwick for motivational speakers Les Brown and Willie Jolley, author George Fraser and sports stars Jawan Howard and Nikki McCray. Over the years, Earl has performed with many local and world-renowned artists. As a side man/ freelance musician, he has worked with Bobby Lyle, Marcus Johnson, Jaared, Alyson Williams, Nick Colionne, Bob Baldwin, Mike Phillips, Michael Lington, Freddie Jackson, Angela Bofill, Regina Belle, Rhian Benson, Tony Terry, Coolio, Bobby Humphrey, Gerald Veasley, Jimmy Sommers, Miles Jaye, Pamela Williams, Gordan Chambers, Angela Johnson, Miriamm, Annie Sidley, Sy Smith and many others. He performed for several nationally televised, international and local concerts and programs including; The Ghana Jazz Festival 2003, The Bermuda Jazz Festival 2002, The Bermuda Jazz Festival 2003, The National Smooth Jazz Awards 2002 and many others. In addition, he spent time participating in local cable TV show tapings and played on several CD recordings that received national airplay and distribution including; Bobby Lyle's - Straight and Smooth, Marcus Johnson's -Live @ Blues Alley, Marcus Johnson's Live - In Person DVD, Marcus Johnson's - Just Doing What I Do, Jaared's - Hangtime, Alyson Williams' - It's About Time, Yahzarah's - Black Star, Kim Scott's - Shake Down and Spike Lee's Soundtrack to Do The Right Thing. As a front man/guitarist, Earl has opened for world-renowned jazz artists such as Pieces of a Dream, Spyro Gyra, Bona Fide and many others. He's performed many venues for multiple radio stations i.e. WJZW 105.9, WSMJ 104.3, 95.9 and WPFW. His personal CD projects have reached heavy rotation on college radio, specialty shows as well as satellite, Internet and overseas radio. Earl has used world-class players in his band and makes every effort to give his audience a spectacular show. He occasionally performs at the legendary jazz club "Blues Alley" and has a new project coming out this year!
