I began composing when my mother's health started declining in 2012. It took me several years to put my feelings of grief, love, hope and despair into music. Ruth Cheney Hogshead passed away in August of 2013 and Summer Shadows was completed in August of 2017. The play of sun and shadows on Mother's cherished hydrangeas inspired the title, Summer Shadows.
