January is Defcon Recordings' third release, a massive, euphoric trance package showcasing the talents of some of the finest upcoming UK trance artists. Originally the brainchild of Defcon stalwart Phil Metcalfe, January is a track now over two years in the making and finally ready to cause damage to dancefloors worldwide. With a further remix package to follow in the summer, January promises to be one of Defcon's biggest releases to date, following on from their widely supported earlier efforts 'Trailblazer' and 'Morning Light (EOYC Anthem)'. Originally the first producer assigned to remix duty, it became obvious early on that Chris 'Med' Medlock's interpretation of January was proving devastatingly effective, and as such Chris and Phil chose to collaborate and work on the track together from then on. The result is an original mix of January that is truly glorious - epic synth lines, and a genuinely infectious lead that soars and just keeps going. All in all this is a melodic, uplifting trance monster that promises to set the world alight. First up on remix duties is Andy 'Alphadelta' Davies, who provides two different takes on the original. On his Balearic Breeze remix, he gives January a slower, more progressive and Mediterranean interpretation just made for a San Antonio sunset, whilst the straightforward and blisteringly effective Alphadelta remix is a more uplifting affair that transforms January into an achingly beautiful trance epic which puts the heartstrings at the very centre of its' string section. Ahead of his future Defcon release 'Back And Forth', Paul Todd offers us a harder edge on his remix, taking a more high-energy approach to the track. Built for a later-night crowd than the other mixes, this remix gives January a tougher angle whilst maintaining its' original air of euphoria in the breakdown. Finally, Adam 'Magdelayna' Rodriguez rounds off the package wonderfully with his Chilldown mix, a gloriously epic ambient reworking of January that packs a powerful emotional punch. Richly-layered strings build on divine synths and make this resulting track incredibly beautiful. All in all we hope that there is something in this package for everyone!
