Momentous is the name of the ambient compositions created by Boston-based synthesist Peter Danilchuk. Drawing on his love of vintage and timeless keyboard sounds, Momentous strives to create natural sounds for background or foreground listening, sending cascading sheets of sound that wash over the listener in a slowly changing terrarium of sound. Instead of intense composition, these pieces are written or improvised with the intention of slow change, to gently transform from one feeling to another, almost imperceptibly. Influenced by a combination of Cluster's work with Brian Eno, the harmonic language of Claude Debussy, the layered textures of the forests of New England, as well as the inherent inspirational qualities of using analog synthesizers and effects, where the inability to make the same sound twice provides a major benefit, Momentous's music is meant to ride loosely and in-the-moment. This is the sound of letting go and letting the music chart its own course.
