Wayne Gidden's music, is inspired by heavy weight soul artists such as Marvin Gaye and Al Green, but he is also a huge fan of Hip Hop, especially where old soul samples are used and good songwriting, no matter the genre. Making his album he wanted to merge soulful melodic vocals, with good songs structures and personal lyrics. Anywhere But Here is a strong indicator of this approach. The song was written for a friend who was imprisoned as a teenager, and who's first child was born during that period. The experience made him turn his life around, and he is now heavily involved in teenage education. For Wayne, the song has to always come first, as he believes great melodies and strong themes will outlast any trend. His album is rich and thoughtful, and although it can firmly be categorised as Modern Soul, the strength of the songs could easily be reinterpreted into other genres.
